Peikko delivers rock foundations to three wind parks in Central Norway

Peikko Group’s sales office in Norway, Peikko Norge AS, has received a substantial order to deliver rock foundation technology to Geitfjellet, Harbaksfjellet and Kvenndalsfjellet wind parks in the Sør-Trøndelag area, Central Norway. Peikko will deliver all steel components for the 100 foundations of the wind parks. The deliveries comprise FATBAR Rock Anchors, tower adapter plates with tower connection bolts, drilling templates and an assembling system, and special reinforcement steel technology. Peikko is also responsible for the foundation design and structural calculations. Deliveries are scheduled to take place between April and November 2019. The wind parks are estimated to be operational by the end of 2020.

Geitfjellet, Harbaksfjellet and Kvenndalsfjellet wind parks are part of the Fosen Vind wind power project. Fosen Vind is Europe's largest land-based wind power project, consisting of six wind farms with a combined capacity of 1,057 MW. Peikko has already participated in the Fosen Vind project by delivering altogether 177 rock foundations to Roan, Storheia and Hitra 2 wind parks.

The developer and future owner of the wind parks is Fosen Vind DA, a joint venture between the Norwegian TrønderEnergi and Statkraft, and Nordic Wind Power DA, formed by a European investor consortium of Credit Suisse Energy Infrastructure Partners and Swiss BKW AG. The project will be executed by Statkraft. The heavy machinery contractor Johs J. Syltern is the main contractor of the civil work and infrastructure, consisting establishment of internal roads, hardstands, and preparation of the wind turbine location spots. Their subcontractor Stjern Entreprenør will perform the technical assembly of steel components and foundation casting works. Vestas delivers altogether 100 pieces of their V117-4.2 MW and V136-4.2 MW turbines with a hub height of 87 meters.

“Peikko has met all our expectations when supplying the components to the previous wind parks of Fosen Vind, and furthermore they have provided a competitive solution for these new wind parks,” states Svein Ole Daltveit, Cost Calculations Responsible, Johs J. Syltern AS.

“Fosen Vind is a remarkable project, and we are proud to be part of it with our foundation solutions. Peikko provides a complete solution including design and supply of foundation components bringing important savings for the project, and thus speeding up the erection process. This concept has secured us these projects and made us a leading foundation supplier in Northern Europe,” comments Topi Paananen, CEO of Peikko Group Corporation.
