Peikko supplies its DELTABEAM® Slim Floor Structure to a retirement village in Canada

Peikko Group’s Canadian subsidiary, Peikko Canada Inc., has received a substantial order of 1.4 kilometers of DELTABEAM® Composite Beams to the Village of Tansley Woods Phase III, a retirement home project located in Burlington, Ontario. The construction is set to start in September 2017 and finish by the end of 2018. The project consists of a 12-storey addition to the Village of Tansley Woods and will make up a total of 52 senior apartments.

The developer for the project is RBJ Schlegel Holding INC., a private holding company owned and operated by the Ronald Schlegel family. The architectural firm chosen to design the project is Cornerstone, and Gray and Fick is responsible for the structural design. The formwork contractor is Alder Construction Group.

''We were previously designing the Schlegel buildings with cast-in-situ concrete, but we changed to DELTABEAM® and hollow-core slabs to reduce the number of columns and walls within the building and to increase the speed of construction,” explains Bill Fick, principal at Gray and Fick.

“It’s great to see more and more senior apartments being built with incombustible structures such as DELTABEAM® across Canada. Integrated fireproofing offers additional time and cost savings. The DELTABEAM® Slim Floor Structure is fireproofed up to 4 hours without any additional fireproofing material required”, says Topi Paananen, CEO of Peikko Group Corporation.

DELTABEAM® is Peikko’s composite slim floor system for multi-storey buildings of any kind. It allows flexibility for layout changes throughout the service life of the building, and enables easy HVAC installations. With the use of DELTABEAM® the depth of the whole structure can be reduced, which means savings in construction time and costs as well as in heating and cooling costs. DELTABEAM® enables different kinds of cantilevers and architecturally challenging façade solutions without the use of in-situ casting.
